Randy Burk & The Prisoners

In the rich tradition of artists like Steve Earle, Johnny Cash, and Dave Alvin, artist Randy Burk creates music that is at once exciting and familiar, honest and soulful, fearless and introspective. Burk has an unparalleled blue-collar work ethic that he’s easily applied to the cutthroat world of music with a midwestern sensibility that for the last 15 years has enabled him to play more than 200 shows a year across the Midwest, West Coast, and Europe with the Prisoners. Burk’s affinity for songs about love, life, pain, and good ole hard work can be traced to his small-town Iowa roots. Born and raised in Atlantic, Iowa Burk spent much of his youth singing in the church and listening to his father’s collection of Elvis Presley 8 tracks. These roots he never abandoned even while sharing the stage with artists from Big Smith to Jason Aldean. Roots that ground honesty to his song writing and humility across the thousands of miles and thousands of shows. “My boots have known mostly rocky roads, but that makes the songs come easy sometimes,” Burk says. In 2012 Randy Burk and the Prisoners won the ArtistSignal.com 90-day competition for $25,000, which helped them release their 3rd album “Money, Heart & Soul.” Burk and the Prisoners will release their 4th album in the fall of 2017.

Luke Fox

You hear a voice as thick and smooth as whiskey and mellow guitar playing that you can only imagine is the byproduct of God’s hands literally caressing the strings to move. You imagine a symphony raucously swaying in musical unity behind a bear of a man strumming on the most melodious acoustic guitar you’ve ever heard. But it fades back to just one man and that’s all that is really there. In an instant you are taken with him across rivers and hills. With lyrical poetry that is both tasteful and strong, you are pulled into a warm and welcoming evening of lighthearted banter and tasteful folk music. This was my transcendent experience hearing Luke Fox. A traveler and kindred spirit, Luke has a friendly demeanor and an authentic character. His music is soothing and exact; I don’t know how long he has been honing his craft but it is as fine as aged wine. After hearing him for the first time he joined me for drinks and I can see why his music is so poignant: the guy is as genuine as his lyrics. A sure-fire favorite and one heckofa guy. Don’t miss what Luke Fox is doing with music.

The current iteration of the NOLA Jazz Band has been playing regularly since March 2015. On that date the band started their ongoing monthly “New Orleans Jazz Party” every first Friday of the month playing to packed and many times sold out shows. All band members have a common love for the sound and “feel” of both traditional and current New Orleans based music – real, gutsy, raw, heartfelt, and entertaining.

The NOLA Jazz Band has recently played alongside a number of well-known traditional jazz and music groups including Davina & The Vagabonds from Minneapolis, Bria Skonberg from New York City, and Dom Flemons of The Carolina Chocolate Drops. Band members have also shared the stage with Vincent Gardner, Maynard Ferguson, Benny Goodman, Kurt Elling, and many others. NOLA Jazz Band members have also been inducted into the Iowa Jazz Hall of Fame, and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

We have yet to open for a national act but we hope to accomplish that goal within the next year. We recently released an all original sixteen song album recorded in Boone, Iowa.
